I had the day booked off work to visit a school for Alex. The snow had cleared the weather was a bit damp in the morning but almost at 8C.
Had lunch out, as it was St. Valentine’s Day, then got geared up to ride out to Datchworth, Woolmer Green, Knebworth and home.
Followed by a 5km loop after about a 2 minute transition.
Bike
Steady ride down Gresley Way, got down onto the TriBars coming past Poplars. Turn off the road onto the cycle path that runs parallel to the A602.
Ended up having to do an emergency stop, due a woman with dog on a stretchy dog-lead straddling the whole cycleway. Despite shouting several times she didn’t notice me until I almost hit her. 🙁
Turned off towards Datchworth, not too much traffic, let a couple of cars past on the single lane climb. I was aiming to get to Tewin, but lack of signage and time, I turned off back to Woolmer Green and Knebworth.
Found my way through the maze of Stevenage cycle paths starting from the Royal Mail Delivery office.
Couple of emergency manoeuvres going through the Old Town section towards the bottom of Martins Way as the schools had just finished for the day.
Coming up Martins Way, kids walking 6-7 abreast on the cycle path ending up taking more evasive manoeuvres.
Slight pause getting off the cycle paths and back onto the roads at Great Ashby Way.
Home in about 53 minutes.

Run
Straight off the bike. Bike into garage. Shoe change, whip off the cycle jersey, stick on my running waterproof as it was starting to rain and out the door in about 2 minutes. (HRM beeped with HR analysis)
Legs felt a bit stiff around the calves, and like I was taking small footsteps. Check watch pacing and seemed to be doing a reasonable rate.
Wasn’t trying to push it, just get used to running off the bike.
Ended up getting quite warm, and had to take off my running waterproof, finished in a reasonable 28 mins.
