2012 is gone and with it my first year of Triathlon and Fitness in general.
I am now classified by the BTF as a 40 year old, but generally 2012 was a good year for me.
Some stats
- Lost 22kg (~3.5 stone) in weight.
- Completed two triathlons.
- 1 super sprint (Blenheim)
- 1 sprint (HSBC Human Race)
- Ran some road races as well.]
- Couple of 10km races, and even 5km race in a lunch break.
- Got Hooked on Strava, Fitbit and TrainingPeaks.
- Started running in my lunch break
- Up to 8 miles for lunch
- Ran 45km one week in lunch breaks.
- Started listening to IronMan and Marathon related podcasts.
- Got a hankering to “Go Long” and do IronMan distance races.
The Round up
However I didn’t finish the year that well.
On 30th Dec, I was supposed to run the Buntingford 10mile year end race, but came down with flu on 23rd Dec and could still hardly move by New Year. It turned out I had a chest infection and an ear infection. I’m now just waiting for the antibiotics to clear my chest enough that I can start training again.
The Future
I have already signed up to do Blenheim again in June (Sprint distance 750m, 21.5km, 5.5km) and in a bout of illness bravado signed up for the Maldon Olympic (1.5km, 40km, 10km) 6 weeks later in July. Time will tell if this was to be a wise decision.
Along with the lunchtime running, I also got my 25 year old touring bike out of the loft and bought some panniers. I’m now looking to start commuting by bike.
It should be noted that my commute is 42 miles (60km) each way, but I figure that is around 2hrs and my commute by train/tube/bus is 2hrs and this way I could save myself a substantial part of the £4000 train ticket.
Anyway, here’s to the New Year.
